This won’t be the same old sidewalk sale by the seaside.
A sidewalk sale along the Belmont Shore business district this Saturday and Sunday will be a swingin’affair where Second Street strollers bebop while they shop.
Expect a jazzy, razzle dazzle time. Here’s why: This year’s two-day Spring Fling sale will feature a live concert by hometown favorites Gregg Young and the Second Street Band.
They will do jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and rock’n’ roll from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, in front of Great Western Savings on Second Street at Corona Avenue.
The 13-year-old band, which is named after Belmont Shore’s most famous thoroughfare, hasn’t performed on Second Street since the 1995 Classic Car Show, because 40 rotating members of the band have been busy on their own or collaborating with famous singers, Young says.
For example, Andrea Palmer, who was featured at the Long Beach Jazz Festival, has just returned from touring with Peabo Bryson.
Anders Swanson has worked with Ray Charles. Tom Zinciust released a new album, “A to Zinc.” J.P. has signed with Motown and has co-written songs with Aaron Neville. Monica Zakariasen is recording material for her own album.
“Yet they all take the time to work with me,” said Young.
The band’s recent high-profile gigs include: The Pond for the Anaheim Piranhas; Hollywood Park on opening night, and the Glendale Galleria upstairs food court, every Saturday and Sunday in April and May (noon to 3 p.m.)
The Spring Fling also will feature daytime kiddie fun in front of Great Western Bank. There will be a carousel from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and a Moonbounce from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
